The irony was dripping of the first two games the Celtics played this season. It grew even more in the fourth quarter of last night's contest against the Caveliers. This game was one night after the Celtics pummeled LeBron James and the Miami Heat. The Cav's dominated the Celtics throughout the game, and for some reason overpowered the Celtics. The LeBron-less Caveliers proved to be a stronger force than the powerful squad from Miami.
Many people argue the Celtics lost this game beause they were very tired. The did indeed arrive in Cleveland at around 3 in the morning. This could have played a role in the Celtics sluggish play last night
Even though Boston kept trying to come back, they couldn't. They almost pulled away earlier in the game, but the Cavs kept it close, and then they pulled away from the Celtics. They had all of the momentum, and never looked back.
Cleveland had possession of the ball with less than three minutes remaining in the game as it held onto an 86-84 lead. The Cavs were unable to muster up a shot in the first 23 seconds of the shot clock, but fortunately for them, they may have had 24.5 seconds to find a good look.
The punishing blow was when the Cavs had possession with about 2:50 minutes left in the game. They had an 86-84 lead, and drained a three pointer with one second remaining on the shot clock. The Celtics were arguing that the shot clock had expired, and they may have had a point. Before the shot even made it to the hoop, every Celtic was wondering how in the world it wasn’t already ruled a shot clock violation. By the time they realized it hadn’t, the ball had fallen through the net and the Cavs had taken a five-point lead with with 2:27 remaining in the game.
Unfortunately, the Celtics didn't get the call they wanted, and proceeded to lose the game, 95-87.
