Fessenden Baseball is a long and storied tradition. The Fessenden 6th Grade Baseball team has gone undefeated for several years running, according to Coach Pepi. This special is on the stars of last year's Fessy baseball team and the season highlights. The highest producing team members were Gabe "Schmitty" Schmittlein, the slugging third baseman, Justen Voghel, the defensive-whiz shortstop and pitcher, Jasen Voghel, the unmatched defensive first baseman and power threat, and Noah Nunnelly, superstar pitcher with blazing fastballs, bigtime offensive force, and a mythical screwball. The Voghel Twins were the team's most solid contributors, Nunnelly was the ace and won MVP and Cy Young honors of the team, and Schmitlein hit bombs all over. Another star of the season was Zach Walsh. He hit three mammoth home runs with his Ruth-like swing and was the biggest surprise of the season.Chris Cleary had an excellent pitching season and a solid defensive season. Sam Rowley showed pitching prowess and solid defense all over the infield and corner-outfield positions. Jack Long, James Paolella, and James "Lebron" Kim helped with infield defense, and Harry Bro made his best effort, and failed epicly. "Houston" Street Jacobs played a lovely catcher and brought his odd pitching delivery to the mound. That resulted in wildness and dominance (a la Ubaldo Jiminez!). Sam Denomme hit well and played a solid catcher and third base. Jason Robbins played a solid shortstop and contributed well to the offense. Highlights of the season included Harry Bro's two-foot Prince Fielder walk off that saved the team from running laps, Gabe Schmitlein's 250 foot shot that resulted in him being tagged out at the plate (no fence, sorry boys), the insanely cold and rainy day at Tenacre that resulted in a win and Harry Bro's only hit of the season coupled with a Jasen Voghel big-blast home run, and a Harry Bro error on a high fly ball that broke a tie in an intramural Red vs. Gray game. The closest game was a 3-1 win over Thayer that was really the most competition of the year, as the other games were flat out blow outs.
Wait for spring Fessy! With new additions Nick Guadagno, Robbie Warming, and Amadou Camara, JVA 1 and JVA 2 should be talents again, provided the Voghels don't move up to Varsity B.
Cheers!
