Even though Tom Brady threw an interception, the first in 358 pass attempts in the regular season (NFL Record), he was as close to perfect as you can get. He threw for a career high, franchise high, and Monday Night Football high 517 yards, to go along with 4 touchdowns and the one interception. Brady wasn't the only player with a stellar game. Wes Welker had 8 receptions for a way-above-average 160 yards and a pair of touchdowns. His 99 yard touchdown catch was the longest in franchise history. And, like I said in the preview to this game, TE's Rob Gronkowski (6 receptions, 86 yards, and 1 TD) and Aaron Hernandez (7 receptions, 103 yards, and 1 TD) had stellar games, as Ochocinco was shut down for the majority of the game. Deon Branch also had 7 receptions and 93 yards. The running backs (BenJarvus Green-Ellis and Danny Woodhead) combined for 105 yards and a touchdown. The 622 yards were also the most in franchise history. The only dark side to this game was that starting center, Dan Coppen, left the game with a broken ankle late in the first half, and is out indefinitely. The leading tackler for the Patriots was CB Devin McCourty, second year player poised for a tremendous season. Kyle Arrington had the lone interception thrown by Chad Henne. The Patriots play the Chargers in week 2, and it promises to be an offensive battle between the two teams.
