6 games left, three teams, one Wild Card

Standings:
Red Sox: --, 3-7 last 10 games, lost last two, play New York at 4:10 (Garcia vs. Lester)
Rays: 2.5 games back, 4-6 last 10 games, lost last game play Toronto at 7:10 (Romero vs, Niemann)
Angels: 3.5 games back, 5-5 last 10 games, lost last two games, play A's at 6:05 (Moscoso vs. Williams)

Now that each team in the AL has won their division, the race for the Wild Card starts. The top three teams are the Angels, Rays, and Red Sox. The Rays and Red Sox are in the AL East division, where the Yankees have clinched. The Angels are in the AL West division, where the Rangers clinched their division. The Red Sox have some breathing room since they have been able to hang on, but this series against the Yankees is crucial. If they could win 2 of 3, it would be tremendous. If they were to only win one, they would have to win at least once against the Orioles, and even though the Orioles are in last place, they have won 7 of their last 10, and could play spoiler against the Red Sox. The Red Sox should be breathing easy however, as their ace, Jon Lester, pitches today against the bottom of the rotation starter Freddy Garcia. Another reason the Red Sox should breath easy is because the Rays finish the regular season with three games against the Yankees, and since the Yankees would love it if the Rays and the Red Sox are kicked out of playoff contention, the Yankees will play almost as hard as they can, even if C.C. Sabathia is resting for the ALDS. The Rays have slipped a little, and their lost last night could be a decisive loss and could cost them the playoffs. The Red Sox shouldn't need to worry about the Angels right now, as they send their 5th starter Williams against the A's tonight at 6, and they have the division winning Rangers in the last series.
So, if the Red Sox can hang on and at least go 3-3 their last 5 games, it would force the Rays to win out, or go 5-6 and pray for a play-in game. If the Red Sox go 3-3, the Angels would be ousted out of contention. Breath easy, Red Sox faithful, as it looks more and more that the Red Sox will play October baseball once again.
