Here are 3 things, coming from a non-football fanatic who doesn't know much, that I think contributed to the Pats losing against the Jets on Sunday.
1. Deion Branch Drops Fourth-Down Conversion
Deion Branch dropped a fourth down conversion that would have bought the Patriots another chance at a touchdown. It just slipped through his fingers, just as the season did, in the end.
2. The Offensive Line Collapses
The offensive line for the Patriots simply collapsed during the game. Jets linemen and linebackers were just running around the line and sacking Brady. Brady isn't known for being fazed by the linemen, but in this game he was. Brady needed a bit more time on each play; give him that, and there could have been a chance at a win.
3. BenJarvus Green-Ellis Never Got On A Roll
Green-Ellis, the Patriots running back, was never allowed the playing time to get on a role during the game. For example, in the last regular season game, which was against the Dolphins at Gillette Stadium, Green-Ellis got on a major roll and bulled his way through the Miami defensive line for a gain almost every possession. If he had been allowed to try and build up such a run, the Pats would have moved downfield efficiently and they would have had a better chance at a win, not to mention they would have had a very streamlined attack without the possibilities of interceptions or incomplete passes; yes, an incomplete stops the clock, but a strong, quick running game can be very efficient.
